The importance of good crowd control

Tonight I had decided to finally put up my own lfm for shroud, hard. I needed (still need) mats for tier 3 of my gs goggles. But, when I logged on with Thaz, I noticed an lfm for just that, Shroud hard. I joined and got a bit worried that they were gonna have me solo heal it. Told the leader that “we need a minimum of one more healer.. unless the bard’s on healer duty”. Final spot was filled by another cleric and in we went. In part 2 we needed 2 goes, because killing the reds was timed wrong and crystal wasn’t shattered on first attempt. But second was a success. In part 3 I was on puzzle duty 🙂 I got a 5×5 and I solved it in maybe 10 seconds. Didn’t need to run up top, just pressed below the dark ones and it got solved. Then found someone in a 3×3 waiting by the door, and went in and it got solved pretty easily. Then found a 5×5 where someone was again standing by the door. There was someone else in there was well, but he didn’t seem to be doing anything (later told me he was using a solver). So I went in and started solving it. Had to work my way down twice, but solved it in 20 or 30 seconds? At this point I couldn’t hear anything but my heart beating and my hands were shaking like crazy 🙂 But yay! I’ve now been able to solve all the shroud puzzles using the method found here: HOWTO: Solve the vale puzzle yourself.

In part 4 people didn’t wait for the blades to go away before killing the last devil, even though we had decided to do so. But part 4 got finished in two rounds and only one death. And part 5 went pretty well as well, maybe 2 deaths. I did drink one pot, though, even though I don’t particularly like to do so. But on the large mats bit it was rather disappointing. 1 large devil scale was all I got. So I decided to go run epic Devil assault for mats. Hard.

And here’s were I start talking about crowd control. You know how people say that good healers are hard to find, or like someone told me today, there’s never too many good healers (or something like that). But cc’s a thing. CC takes skills. It requires high enough DC for the foes to stick, and knowledge about the quest, so you know where to put the cc. I ran eDA 3 times today, on hard. First two runs we had one wizard do cc, in the last one another. In the first two runs we were also two healers, but both of us were meleing/ casting, and I was mostly aura healing. The first two runs went very smoothly, because the wiz put up discos and web by the portals (first rounds in the middle) and he got almost everything to stick. Dancing or stuck in web foes don’t hit you, so very little healing required.

For the third run we lost the wizard we had and were joined by another. This guy was very green, and his only cc was disco, which he wasn’t using very well. He had one disco ball in the middle only. And he got less than half of the foes to stick. Safe to say we were pretty much in trouble. People were taking a lot of damage, including me. In the first two runs I was feeling pretty good, in the third one I thought to myself, “is this never gonna end?”. I was lagging a bit, my heals weren’t taking… and I died. At least twice. Luckily everyone, but the wizard had a good amount of hp, and didn’t drop even though I did. I got a raise, healed up and healed with what I had. I drank 3 pots and used scrolls. The wizard died twice, the fighter I believe once. I saw it happening, was pressing buttons for heals, but nothing happened, so he dropped.

After this run the wizard asks, again on hard or do you wanna try elite? At this point I’m thinking “Seriously? We barely made it through on hard, and you want to try elite?” I was though feeling pretty tired and most of the others had to go as well, so I was ready to call it a night. I did get some frags, a couple of large gs mats and a bunch of xp. Thaz has enough xp for 21. Don’t think I want to level her just yet, though. I still have quests lvl 17 I want to run, and I don’t want to outlevel them too much.

But yeah, I’ve learned, that having a good cc in the party when doing epics or hard quests in general (Servants of the overlord comes to mind), can be the difference between success and failure. Like I mentioned in a previous post, I tried doing cc with my sorc in Servants of the overlord elite, and I was surprised that it actually worked pretty well 🙂

Alright. need to sleep now. Tc and see you in game.

P.S. after running Thaz, I logged with Jarvanna and me and my sis ran Stealthy repossession and waterworks elite. 🙂 We did wipe a couple of times and I released while my sis stayed (because I figured I’d get back a little bit faster), except for in the 3rd quest of waterworks where I asked her to release after I had re-entered. I didn’t have a hire, and I didn’t want to fight all the mobs solo. Otherwise things went pretty well and my sis got xp for lvl (Jarvanna’s still missing 15k)

CC’s over

🙂 woop woop, I can finally post again. Here’s my last post about Crystal Cove (at least until the next one’s on). I got a bit over excited about the whole event and decided to try to get as much out of it as possible. I ran a half marathon on Saturday (May 5th), got home and after eating sat down in front of the computer to do a CC marathon. 🙂 And guess what? I went a bit overboard 😀 24.5 h straight on, about 27 runs (maps were being collected incredibly slowly). I checked the amount of runs via DDOViewer and according to it, Thazara has run CC 44 times, Cerge 4 and Maidae 7. This was my first time running Crystal Cove and here’s the list of stuff I got for my toons:

I was 301 shards short to upgrade Cerge’s trinket to greater, and I didn’t get enough shards to upgrade any more stuff to tier 3 (tier 3 is 1700 shards), but I’m quite pleased anyway. 🙂 I love the trinkets, though.

And, why’d I get a scimitar for Thaz? Well, Thaz is an elf and through the Follower of the Undying Court Champion of the Deathless enhancement she is proficient in scimitars. She’s also offensive caster with melee fallback and the scimitar works nicely 🙂 I was running around Smuggler’s Rest killing things with two blows.

Now, on a side note. I met a quite end game focused cleric while running CC, that was telling me that Thaz won’t be allowed to join higher level raids for being melee fallback. I was like, why? Thaz is first and foremost healer, and a pretty good one at that. So, she doesn’t have 500+hp or 2000+sp yet. So what? She’s not finished. I’m not planning on running high level raids or epics in a while yet. I’m still collecting favor and I’m just about to start running Shroud. I have no doubts that Thaz will be allowed to join any raid I wish to, when she’s ready.

Also, I really don’t like it when experienced players “tell me” what I should do. Like first you do that, then that. First you get these kinds of green steel, then you run that raid to get that and so on. I’m here to have fun. And I have my own way of playing. And I’m sure as hell not gonna do those things if you tell me I should 😀 I’m a bit of a rebel, yes.

Take care, and see you around Orien.
Much love, Thaz.

P.S. While I don’t like people telling me what to do, I very much appreciate it when people tell me where and how I can get cool stuff. But, if I go for it or not should be my decision.

Divine pissing contest

🙂 So I was running cove (again.. but it’s almost over, lol), and joined a lvl 20 party that at first had 3 clerics (including me), 1 fvs, 1 pally and 1 wiz (one of the clerics left and was replaced by another wiz, lol). Well while we were waiting for CC to open, the fvs and one of the clerics were “comparing”. My cleric’s got 500+hp and 2000+sp as a first lifer with bad gear. Oh my fvs too 🙂 Heh.

🙂 Did I tell you I’m very competitive and goal oriented? Thazara’s a first lifer, doesn’t have +3 tomes (not even too many +2’s) and no GS item yet. But I’m thinking I should be pretty pleased anyway since she’s at the moment at 400+hp buffed with aid and at 1800+sp. 🙂 Now I just need more 🙂 I shouldn’t stress, though, since my goal with Thazara was never to make her an end game toon (which it now is), but to have her go through all the quests collecting favor and experience (gaming experience, not xp), and I know I can make her stronger with gear. She will be running epics in no time 🙂

See you around Orien. G’night.

Heals! Really?

Ok, here my rant for the day. Seriously people! I was running CC yesterday (that’s Tuesday), did 8 runs on my capped cleric and 2 on my lvl 10 monk. 🙂 I must admit that running the monk was a whole of a lot easier than running my cleric. I mean she took out the reds solo in lvl 11 CC (with some help from the cleric, ty for the heals).

So, the rant is… People, anybody can carry heals. And if you’ve made it to 20 and you’re not carrying any heals, you’re just f’ing stupid, ok? There was a barb running with us in CC CR20, we were 2 clerics in the group, me and Gentrixlover. Gent was torching, I was protecting center. The barb was scouting, and by scouting I mean running all over the place. And, several times he was yelling heals! and complaining “..two clerics in the group and no heals”. Well you know what? If you want heals (which you really shouldn’t be that dependent on at that level anyway), you should stay close to one of the clerics. I would have healed you if you had stayed in center with me. Kinda busy protecting center, don’t have time to run after you. F’ing moron.

Then later on when I ran on my monk, we had a ranger in the group who was yelling heals at the cleric. Where’s the healer, need heals. All my chars are self sufficient, having a healer there only makes fights a bit easier (i.e. I don’t have to fall back to heal myself, but can keep going). I was very thankful that the cleric did stay by me when I took on the red names during the runs, since in those I really needed heals, but otherwise I could have managed without the cleric. And my restoration scrolls came in handy when Jack (I’m always fighting Jack, lol) threw energy drain at me (after I took him down I restored my neg levels and healed up with a wand).

In stead of complaining when you’re not getting heals from the cleric, you should thank them when you are, ok? If you’re being a douche, you might not get any heals at all in the future. And people! start carrying heals, ok? You don’t need umd for pots.

Thanks for reading. See you around Orien.
