DDO marathon

Note: marathon, means marathon. This is going to be long. lol

Friday was a night off from DDO for me, due to work xmas party (yes, kind of early, I know). Saturday I did a bit of household chores, then logged on to DDO at 7pm, which is a lot earlier than I usually play on Saturdays. Plan was to play til early Sunday morning. πŸ™‚

Early evening
So, I logged on and checked the lfm. Nothing good on. Alright, so I was missing some mats (four) for the gs scimitar I was going to make for Thaz, and they all drop in Let the sleeping dust lie, so headed over there to do a quick normal. On the way there I saw an lfm for The Chronoscope epic elite, and sent the leader a tell, that if they need a healer I’ll join once they have a bit more ppl, that I’ll run vale for mats until then. I got a reply a while later asking me how long, and I replied that I’ll drop the quest and join.

Saturday post

To start off I want to say that Thazara has now run every quest in the game, except The Lord of Blades and The Web of Chaos, and she is now flagged for all the raids. She has run all quests elite lvl 1-21, except the following: Ascension Chamber (normal), Hound of Xoriat (hard), A Vision of Destruction (hard), The Master Artificer (normal), The Dreaming Dark (normal), and quests lvl 22-23 on hard. I am going to do favor clean up and run all of these quests on elite, still.

Here’s the run down of Thazara’s Saturday.

Tower of Despair
I logged on with Thaz and wanted to do a ToD as the first thing. No ToD on the lfm. I sent a friend a tell “Wanna lead a ToD?”. He replied “Emm. No”. And then started telling me about how easy it is and what I need. Hmm. I was watching the lfm indecisively, then someone posted a ToD. I hit it right away and spent some time talking to the person posting. πŸ™‚ He was telling me about how it’s easy to lead and how he’s done shadow tank role some time etc. (he was a monk/pally). Well, I’m sure he knew his stuff, but he failed to make sure the party knew it’s stuff. We entered without an experienced shadow tank.

Jarvanna has been neglecting Xenaya for about 2 weeks so the first thing she did this Saturday was help Xen get to lvl 8. I wanted to teach Xen what window farming is all about so we did a few runs of Caged Trolls hard. After I wanted to do a quick run of Depts elite for the last bit of XP, because I like Depts. πŸ™‚ Well, we managed to wipe in the second quest and turns out Xen only needed a tiny bit more for lvl 8, so I said let’s just do slayer for the last bit. Xen and Jarvanna took their lvl and headed over to The Tear of Dhakaan elite with the druid Manhas and the rogue Lawion. Half way through they were also joined by the lvl 1 rogue/ lvl 6 fighter Sneakybot. Heals were mostly the hireling Flower. Everything’s well until we get to the open area with the closed door and the optional clay golem. Jarvanna and Lawion head for the optional, the rest for the door, and then everything goes sideways. The people by the door go down, Jarvanna tries to go help and goes down. Same story for Lawion and it’s a wipe. I was out of time, so said, ty, but I have to go lfm for my weekly shroud now.

Weekly elite shroud
I put up the lfm at more or less exactly 5pm EST. It’s interesting, every week’s different. Sometimes we fill very quickly, other times I end up waiting a long time. The first to join is a sorcerer, then I get a fighter (I think) and a ranger. One friend is doing a ToD (we end up waiting so long that he join in the last spot), so can’t join, the other is on timer. I don’t get an arti this run either, but 3 casters, an fvs, a second cleric, a rogue and then some melees (this time I actually forgot what classes I had). Things are pretty smooth in phase 1 and 2, someone dies in phase 1, but that’s what happens when u lag while jumping over the spikes (I never jump over them). Spikes hurt a lot on elite. Phase 3 is also smooth, in phase 4 I get a bit annoyed with the cleric. He was trying to take the lead, wanted to do heal turns. Ok, I’ll try it this once. I have run raids doing heal turns, but most of the time we don’t. See, I’m not a healbot. I heal and DoT. I also lag. Which means, if we are going to do heal turns, I will have to healbot and hope for no lag. 2 people die in phase 4 and I drink 1 pot. Well, at least I tried heal turns and know that it’s much smoother when we’re 3 healers healing, than one healing until out of mana, then someone else takes over. This might have been the way to do it in the old epic raids, but in elite shroud, and especially when it’s my run, I do not want to do it that way.

Since I have a cleric in the party with more mana than me, I let him do all the mass buffs and someone else do fire resist and freedom of movement. As always I make sure everyone has gotten the important buffs and that everyone’s gotten their mana back before we take down the ellie. Harry arrives and the melees start beating on him. Melees do a good job at keeping Harry put and I keep DoT’ing. I do drink maybe 3 pots to keep at it, and we have 2-3 deaths, but everyone’s standing when Harry goes down. πŸ™‚ Oh, and for the first time someone actually does not finish. Who leaves an elite shroud anyway?

Afterwards the cleric asks me if I do this run weekly, and tells me he’s got 4 toons available for the run, that I could have one of them for my weekly Shroud. πŸ™‚ It was rather strange, in my opinion, until I later on found out who the person was. Same person who ran with Thazara in her very first epics around last Crystal Cove, and who asked me to join Definitely’s weekly eVON. πŸ™‚

Weekly eVON
Well seems like Thazara has added at least one raid to her weekly raid list. My raid plan for Saturday was Shroud, eVON and ADQ (did ToD on Friday). Cleazy (who invited me to join the guild Disorderly Conduct) wanted to join my Shroud, but he got distracted and didn’t hit the lfm before we filled. My bad that I didn’t invite him before that, but there was some miscommunication, and I got a bit annoyed with the fact that he told me while I was waiting to fill “I’ll join and then a lot of my friends will most likely join”. So I kind of didn’t want him to join just because of that comment. πŸ™‚ I found it a bit condescending, like I couldn’t fill my own raid? πŸ™‚ But after Shroud I joined his eVON in the last spot as the second healer. πŸ™‚ Cleazy has gotten a bit obsessed with running eVON, since he badly wants the eSOS shard (I think it was shard and not seal, might be wrong though). He’s running eVON on several toons, probably every day. So, eVON with Cleazy is smooth. I guess I’ll be running it with him at least once a week from now on. I had planned to do Definitely’s weekly eVON, but he usually puts up the lfm at 3am my time, which feels like a bit too late.

Later on Tristian the paladin (who turns out was the cleric in my Shroud), asks me if I want to join Definitely’s eVON, that they have a spot open for a healer. πŸ™‚ I reply, “sorry, but seems like I’m a Cleazy follower now, just ran it with him a moment ago”. πŸ™‚ Definitely has joined my Shroud before, and I don’t know his toons, lol! So might be that he was there too this week. Tristian and Definitely use the Dark Prophecy channel and I think I could get some shroud recruits from there as well.

eVON Quest report

Interesting thing about eVON. It says “You have repeated this adventure 6 times, -40%”. Well, this is the 3rd time in a row at least that it has said that. πŸ™‚ This was I think Thazara’s 9th VON.

πŸ™‚ After eVON Cleazy wants to do eADQ. I have to ask him, did u know I wanted to do ADQ, or did u come up with it on ur own? (I wrote on Twitter that I was gonna do ADQ this Sat). πŸ™‚ And he replies “Don’t u worry about that”. πŸ˜€ Meh! Such a tease. There seems to be a lot of ADQ’s on the lfm and we have a difficult time getting anyone. We end up running both on eNorm, me (Thazara lvl 22 cleric), Cleazy (fvs lvl 25), Cleazy’s friend on her paladin and a guildie of mine on a barb. I mess up a few times, and die and in ADQ when the Marilth targets me I call her an “evil bitch”. πŸ™‚ The paladin replies something like “yes, she’s moody isn’t she?” (Of course I go down when I get aggro, since I’m currently leveling Exalted Angel. In Unyielding Sentinel Thaz would have done better). We take her out and hope for good loot, but most of it is junk. No Torc. At least I get an epic raid token.

Alone at last. πŸ™‚ Pally and barb leave and it’s just me and Cleazy. It’s sort of late, but I haven’t seen C all week, so I’d like to run some more. (omg! Does Thaz have a new crush?). He gives me the star, but I don’t want it, so give it back. I check Thazara’s quest panel and the only heroic quests she hasn’t run are Murder by Night, The Riddle and Raiding the Giants’ Vault (solo). Cleazy do the lfm and we head over to do Murder by Night and after we do the Riddle. With that Thazara has enough purple dragon knights favor to get Key to the City – Eveningstar. As a last quest before I have to go to bed we do Don’t Drink the Water on epic hard. This was also a pretty good run, even though our cc guy wasn’t always responding to requests (haste, disco, open lock).

The riddle

The Riddle

In don’t drink the water we met some interesting creatures called Yuan-ti.

Tharmalos Green dragon

πŸ™‚ Aussircaex seen in the second dragon pic is Thazara’s new winter wolf pup companion.

After this it was time for Thazara and Micki to turn in for the night.

Ty all for reading and see you on Orien or Cannith.
Happy questing/ raiding.

tl;dr Just look at the pics. πŸ˜‰

P.S. Thazara just exceeded 4100 favor. Woop woop. Cleazy was bragging a bit about everything he has and has done (well yes, you were!), πŸ™‚ but at least I beat him on favor. πŸ˜€

Got caught up playing… again

I was waiting all week for Saturday and time to play my main, Thazara. The plan was to maybe run The shipwrecked spy and Dream conspiracy first, then do some challenges for favor (going to try and unlock arti) before the weekly shroud at 5pm EST. (I think I’m going to divide this post into chapters, lol!)

I found a nice group for the two IQ quests, and we ran them on elite without too much problems, a few deaths, but nothing special. These were the last quests I wanted to do before taking lvl 22, so went ahead and leveled after that. Thazara has now run all quests elite lvl 1-18, except Abbot normal, VoD and HoX hard.

Elite shroud take one
A friend logged on and we ran a few house c challenges and then I lfm’d for my weekly elite shroud. Not a single regular was on. Last week we filled in probably less than 5 min, this week it took longer and I also had competition on the lfm, others were lfm’ing for elite. I got one person I knew from before, an fvs, and a second cleric. 2 rangers, 2 monks, 1 fighter, 2 wizards and maybe 2 paladins. We were doing ok up to phase 4, where it took 4 rounds and several ppl died. Then we lost the other cleric. He died in round 2 or 3 of phase 4, when I tried to res him after phase 4 was finished, nothing happened and soon after he lost connection. So, we went into phase 5 one healer short (we did wait for him to come back long enough imo). Phase 5 got messy pretty fast. I don’t know if it was because someone died, but instead of the melees surrounding Harry, like it’s usually done, someone started kiting him, which meant I kept missing people with my mass cures/ heals. People died, I died, I had to be rez’d twice, because first time I got Harry aggro as soon as I got up and I had even run out of sight into a corner.

Second raise I got up, healed up and started just blocking and raising ppl. Kept at it, while trying to heal a bit (I stopped rez’ing the fvs after a while, because she was out of mana and wasn’t even healing herself), then I ran out of bursts, wasn’t fast enough and died. Last one standing was one of the rangers, who ran into a corner and stood there shooting at Harry. He was doing ok at surviving, but wasn’t doing very much damage, so someone wanted him to try and rez him, which then led to the ranger dying and us wiping.

Elite shroud take 2
I decided I wanted the completion, so I lfm’d again and some ppl stayed on, including the fvs. I have already forgotten the set up of this group, but we had 2 monks, a second cleric, fighter, barbs, sorc, wizard and arti. Again, phase 1-3 went fine, and we had some problems in phase 4. Still not enough dps. Phase 5 went a bit better this time around, but people did die and it was pretty messy. At some point I stopped rezing and focused just on dp’ing Harry instead. Down goes harry, I touch the altar and the dead can use the res shrine. Me, who don’t like potting, must have gone through around 20 mana pots in these 2 runs. My normal is 1 pot in phase 5. I have been lfm’ing for lvl 18-25, but this is getting too expensive, so next time I’ll only take 20-25.

After shroud I was just going to organize some stuff and then go to bed, but I noticed someone lfm’ing for Eveningstar chain 1 on epic elite, and sent a tell that I’d be interested. I was allowed to join and off we go. Impossible demands was pretty much as messy this time as it was last time I ran it (on hard), although the leader was doing a little bit better job at leading. My only problem was that during runs/ quest the kept telling me how to heal. First I he told me to stay back when I was trying to spam bursts, then I was healing too slow because he died (well duh, u ran ahead and I was with the rest of the group). Then in one quest he was like “never let my hp go below 70%” (in the boss fight). Well, mr barb (and this is kinda one of my pet peeves), I do my best, but when I have 5 people running around me, none of them self healing (I mean we had 2 rangers and a sorc that weren’t healing themselves + a monk), and my masses aren’t catching more than 1-2 ppl, people are going to die. If it was just you, if I only had to worry about keeping u healed, and I myself would be safe, then it wouldn’t be a problem. But I do get pretty annoyed when people tell me how to heal, like it’s my fault that I can’t heal people that are running around lie headless chicken. (I did though, tell him when he told me how to heal him in the boss fight that I will, but I will not heal anyone ranged and I will not rez anyone, because I can’t swap target that fast – if I have to be on barb watch)

Second thing, and I’m sure a lot of u will disagree with me on this. For Battle of Eveningstar we were joined by a wizard instead of the sorc who left. He told me not to throw bb and just to healbot, because in his opinion that was what the party needed. He also thought my hp was really low at 480, so I should avoid aggro. Well, mr wizard. You do not know me. At lvl 13 running a lvl 12 quest elite and throwing bb would get me killed (I’m saying this because it happened). At lvl 22 running epics, I throw bb and comet fall – and stand in the middle of battle (sometimes meleing) to be able to spam bursts. I have put skills in balance and jump and I often jump back and forth pulling mobs through bb. Ok, so this was elite, and I was possibly in over my head, but I’d still rather help take mobs out, than waste all my mana on mana sponge barbs (they take less damage when I’m helping out).

Third thing. Before U14, running epics with a weak or semi-weak party could still be successfully done with good tactics. Since the change of the epics system, it seems like people are running them all willy-nilly. And, elite is a lot harder than hard, and people think u can just stand there kicking butt like u do every day. I much more prefer runs with a good plan and good cc. I do not like runs where people are all over the place fighting different foes and I can’t target anyone. Why is this? Well cause there are still the “blame the cleric barbs” who blame me when I don’t heal for one or another reason. It’s not the party’s fault, no, it’s the cleric who did a crappy job. Don’t u agree?

Alright, so this turned into a bit of a rant, lol! πŸ˜€

In other news, Thazara just exceeded 4000 favor with the epic elite runs. She hit the number 4000 even after Impossible demands, and was rewarded 125 TP. Here’s a picture for proof (click for full size).

Thazara 4000 favor

That’s all folks. πŸ™‚ See you next time.

P.S. I guess I have to start advertising better for my elite shroud? lol!

P.P.S. 2 more runs to go before the cleansing stone. If I do 1 extra run on Tuesday or Wednesday, I’ll get the stone on Saturday: πŸ™‚

P.P.P.S tl;dr I’m gonna post the favor thing in a different post as well πŸ™‚

First Saturday after vacation

I logged on on Saturday for the first time in 8 days and was immediately a bit overwhelmed. πŸ™‚ I wanted to say hi to everyone and prepare for Thazara’s Saturday elite shroud… and was planning to run something before that, but I never got to it. Oh, how I had missed u guys! Yes, to be honest I like several of my DDO friends better than I like a lot of people in my real life. Sorted Thazara’s inventory, and was then gonna do a few quick runs of Rainbow in the dark for gs twigs, but shortly after I put up the lfm someone sent me a tell that they would give me the twigs. πŸ™‚ Thank you very much! But of course I messed it up. 😦 I was going to make a cloak for Thaz and was sure I had made Green Taper before (I didn’t check, but believed I remembered correctly), that I was missing Filaments of Toil and Wondrous Oil, so I made those two only to notice I now had two filaments and no taper and not enough mats to make the taper. 😦 Well, at least the filaments aren’t bound so I can either give them to Cerge for his gs or sell them.

So, on to Thazara’s Saturday Elite Shroud. πŸ™‚ I have been mentioning it, but I prolly should add a notice to my myddo page as well. I had 2 friends join before I put up the lfm, and had a 3rd one promise to join. I put up the lfm at exactly 0:00 Finnish time or 5pm EST. My lfm was as usually 18-25 “Elite. Have hp, breakers. 2xheals, rest dps. No first timers”. I was surpriced at how slowly we were filling. My lfm rules are always, first come first served, unless I’m specifically looking for a healer or trapper. I got a few casters and a sorcerer at only 300 hp. I wasn’t paying attention, and when I got a tell asking if the sorc doesn’t have too little hp, and then a healer joins only to tell us “you’re gonna fail”, I throw the lead to my friend who’s got a lot more experience leading raids than I do. Yup, I chickened out.

Takes too long imo to fill, but we do and people try to help the sorc out to make him a bit more durable. Party is for sure semi weak, but I have faith, as I always do. πŸ™‚ I switch Thazara’s ED back to Unyielding Sentinel before the raid, and before phase 4 I change from my fav stance Vigor of Battle (+100 hp, heal amp, and on a successful hit stacking +10 hp for 1 min) to Unbreakable (+5 AC, DR 10/epic and diehard feat). The squishy sorc dies from the blades in phase 3 and 4, otherwise things are pretty good all through phase 4. I keep DoT’ing and we take out Harry in 3 rounds.

On to phase 5. Our monk parks the ellie, we kill the others and buff up. We’re ready, or so we think. Harry arrives and we fight and suddenly Harry teleports to me. I’m like wtf, how did I suddenly get aggro? πŸ˜€ lol. Thaz is sturdy as hell in her stance, and when people start dropping likes flies, I can still stay put, block and raise. For some reason we loose our third healer who ends up in the beginning, out of battle. The second healer who’s on a lvl 25 fvs (or, I think he is lvl 25, at least he has a lvl 25 fvs, lol) also drops a couple of times, and at some point Harry is down to maybe 10% and I say, now I’m just gonna continue DoT’ing (instead of raising people). But I get con damage and get helpless… and die. I get a raise from Niv, but Thaz get super squishy with death penalty, so I don’t even have time to heal up before I drop again. Everything’s messy, most of the party’s dead, but someone get’s the killing hit, runs over to the altar and we finish. πŸ™‚ Everyone can raise at the shrine that’s now available, to get loot. πŸ™‚ This has got to be the toughest Shroud I’ve run where we still finished, so kudos to everyone participating. Oh, and I did chug 3 pots compared to last time 0.

Sat Shroud

I almost forget to turn in the quest, and then I wanted to send a tell to the cleric who told me we were gonna fail, but he was offline. Forgot to add him to my friend list, so I could send him a tell later. πŸ™‚ I wanted to do the “ha-ha! we finished!”. I love proving people wrong, lol. I jump on a party doing eVON raid epic hard as their second healer and switch Thazara’s ED back to Exalted Angel before entering. I’m thinking, eHard with only 2 healers, and the other is a clonk with a lot less sp than me? Party is pretty weak (compared to the ones I’ve previously run with) and it’s a bit of a difficult ride to the end fight, but we get there. The other healer forgets to rest, so only me is at good mana, while he’s out, but he tells us he has 15 turns left, so I tell him to just keep spamming them and we’ll be fine. Takes us way too long to take out the boss in VON5 imo, but we get it done and Thaz get’s 50k XP for her ED, even with -30% repetition penalty (5x).

We enter VON6 and I go to the 3rd base as I’m told, even though, someone says at some point that the cleric didn’t go to the base she was suppose to and I’m not sure if it meant me or the other one. I was told 3rd base, and to me that’s the one that’s furthest away, i.e. wind. But anywho, we get to the dragon fight and Thaz gets close to dropping a couple of times. Man! She’s so much squishier in EA than in US. πŸ™‚ But we finish. Yay! Oh, and during VON5 a party member sends me a tell “Nice to finally run with u, I read your blog” (or something like that). πŸ™‚ Hi there, always nice to meet readers, but I do love getting stars and comments as acknowledgement that people have read it, so please, do comment. πŸ™‚ Or, send me a pm.

Saturday eVON

After VON I jump on a party doing Lords of Dust eNorm, looking for a divine to bless the altars. They’re almost done, only missing the altars and boss fight. So, I get some quick XP from that, and then decide to head over to King’s Forest. I put up an lfm “Just running around King’s Forest looking for commendations”. I somewhat quickly get a full party and a wizard who leads us around. We do 3 instances and in the third one we meet the second green dragon, my first time. I get a nice amount of XP, and enough commendations to get Star of Day for Thaz. Thaz got her ED to 1, that is, she is/ has now GMoF0, EA1 and US5. Also less than 300 slays for 1,500 in King’s Forest. I stayed with the group until the wiz had to leave (at around 6.30 Finnish time), then went to get my Star of Day, finally! But to my disappointment it’s required trait good, UMD 26. 😦 Thazara is true natural (I bought a change from Lawful good at lvl 18) and has no UMD. I’m really disappointed that I wasted 15 commendations on an item I cannot use. I added req good and umd 26 to wiki, but then I started thinking that maybe not all of them are that, if the enhancements are random? Maybe it was just bad luck that I got the good one? I’m not planning on farming for commendations in a while anyway, nothing I currently want.

The second green dragon (Urklauth):

I don’t usually like putting pics of slain creatures here, but he did not disappear right away, so I took a pic. He was gone a second later.

Slain dragon

So, yup, my Saturday turned into a 8.5 h gaming session, lol. πŸ™‚ And I didn’t even get any favor, but Thaz did gain a bunch of epic token fragments and is getting closer to 20 tokens. I wasn’t farming for tokens before U14, so this is the most I have ever had. I was going to save up for 2 hearts of wood and one epic crystal for Thaz, but it seems as though I will buy the hearts and just use the tokens for a crystal for Thaz.

Alright, that’s all from me for now. Ty for reading and happy questing.

P.S. tl;dr – I’ve got nothing. Just look at the pictures, lol. πŸ˜€

Oh, Man! Worst shroud ever

πŸ™‚ Well the shroud bit was only a small fragment of my gaming time tonight. I had decided to finally make my gs goggles, and while making them I realized I was missing a few ingredients. No prob, let’s see if they have them at AH. I bought about 4, but Glistening pebbles was priced and 150k. No, that’s too much, even if I have it. So, off I went to Rainbow in the dark, solo with hire and summon, normal. Soloing is just dull, and it takes way too long πŸ™‚ I mean, in a party there’s always something going on, and if u have to wait for something u can always chit-chat. Rainbow went fine, even though I ran out of mana half way to the first shrine and had to melee in the dark. Aura and fire elemental did help some. And in the end chest I got my pebbles and was able to make my gs blank. Then over to the guild ship to see if I can make my gs tier 1- Jup, I could, even though I had to buy one more ingredient from AH (was maybe 8k, so no big). Turns out we have an Altar of Invasion and an Altar of Devastation on the guild ship atm, but no Altar of Subjugation, so I would have to wait for the next Shroud to use it.

I then decided I finally wanted to make my way to Eveningstar, the easy way, running Beyond the rift lvl 16 normal πŸ™‚ Was a bit lost in the second part when I get a tell from someone I’ve run epics with, asking if I want to run Shroud. Sure, I was just trying to get to Eveningstar. πŸ™‚ He said he’d help me out after shroud. πŸ™‚ Ok, that’s cool.

When I join the party I see 2 fvs, several rogues and wizards, one sorc, one arti and one paladin. And guess what? Except for the paladin at 600 hp, I had the highest hp in the group (I just got 10 hp more from speaking to the Argonessen patron, so Thaz is with minos unbuffed over 500hp, buffed without minos over 500 as well). Several in the group weren’t even over 300. “This won’t go well”, I though to myself, but let’s give it a go. Well, the run was the worst one I’ve ever run. It was a mess. Part one went ok, just took us imo way too long to take out the portals (this is a sign that we probably won’t be able to take down Harry). Part 2 was a bit messy, since someone killed one of the reds too fast and the sorc who was on the crystal got helpless and couldn’t do anything. But on the second go we managed to get through.

In part 3 I must have pressed a button just by entering, because my puzzle solved itself (3×3). I also solved a circular one and a 5×5 (my first, yay!). Then someone was having problems in a 3×3 one, someone panicked and watered the fountain, stopping us from getting the two extra chests. I was pretty annoyed over that. Like come on, who cares that it’s taking a bit longer to solve some puzzles? No one had even died (actually someone did die before that, but that was from the blades).

The shroud

In part 4 is where everything just fell apart. When I heal shroud, I focus on one of the melees fighting Harry. But, the party didn’t wait for the blades to go away before killing the last devil, so when Harry arrived we had blades and other mobs around the room and people were all over the room fighting different mobs. There was maybe 2 people on Harry only. In round one 2 people died. In round 2 several more died. In round 3 we were maybe 4 people left alive, me and one fvs (who didn’t seem to know to heal himself), the pally and someone else. The pally was solo fighting Harry and I was out of mana since long ago. So as a last try I jumped in and started hitting on Harry myself, to try and heal with aura and bursts. Safe to say I didn’t last long. Got spammed with maybe 4 fire blasts and dropped. The pally lasted a few seconds more and then it was a wipe.

I have been in Shroud wipes before, my short Shroud history is 7 completions (5 normal, 2 hard) and 3 fails (all on hard), one of them a guild run, the rest pugs, but this was definitely my worst run so far. I was even in one where people were rushing and not waiting for buffs, still managed to complete. Shroud isn’t a hard raid, if people know what they’re doing and the leader is able to tell people what to do. But let inexperienced people run amok in the raid and this is what u get. What did I learn from this? Maybe to trust my gut? If my gut’s telling me it isn’t going to work (because we only seem to have one tank in the group), I should just politely decline the run.

πŸ™‚ Me and the rogue, who asked me to join the group in the first place, then headed of to Beyond the rift, epic normal. We got through it without too much problems, and I then asked to be guided round King’s forest πŸ™‚ Interesting place King’s forest. I didn’t get to see a dragon though. We did a few challenges and I got a few commendations. But the ghost stories challenge got the best of us. I did a successful concentration roll with my unbuffed 31 concentration (actually, come to think of it, I was not holding my +15 concentration dagger), but the red named necromancer was a bit tough. Well the problem was that I was the only one who could raise (the rogue had one scroll), so we wiped after I died a second time.

King's Forest

πŸ™‚ But I had a nice time anyway, and forgot about time again. Now I need to sleep…

Welcome to epic destinies

No, this will not be a post on the epic destinies, lol, but on what I experienced after finally getting into the game after the update πŸ™‚

Welcome to the underdark

While I was waiting for the update to load, I spent some time reading the release notes on what’s different. I feared the part about the UI reset. What does that mean? Do I have do rearrange everything? After I finally got into the game I spent a long while trying to figure out how I wanted Thazara’s UI and quickbars to be. I mean, she has 15 quickbars in use. And how do you get the buffs icons to the right and not the left? Couldn’t figure it out, so I decided to let the be. Oh, my superior ardor VI clickies are now improved ardor with +15 spell power? What the heck does that mean? So, I also arranged some stuff in the bars and changed one of the spells (I realized I never use comet fall anymore since it’s so expensive, so better pick a spell I actually use)

Before doing anything else I logged with the other toons on Orien to set their UI as well, and then logged back with Thaz. Epic destinies. Need to pick one before doing any questing, so any xp earned will go into my new destiny. For divines the choices were Unyielding Sentinel and Exalted Angel. The first one for sort of melee types and the second for offensive caster types. Well I’ve made Thaz as caster, but it came down to the basic fact that the first one gives u a hp boost, the second a sp boost. I’ve managed well with the little sp I have, but Thaz is incredibly squishy, so I picked the Unyielding Sentinel. I got the Vigor of battle feat/enhancement, activated it and oh, wow! I suddenly have 100 hp more. Very nice, very nice.

Epic destinies

I was looking at the lfm and getting all confused with the new “active” and “expires” things. You use the instance to teleport somewhere? Huh? How does that work? Decided with a friend to join a pug for The Tide Turns epic. Oh, epics have difficulties now? I did read a myddo post about this, but I though it was only going to be in the new content. We had a bard for CC and the leader goes in on elite. The bard tells us, she’s only done hard, that she does’t know if she can do elite. We sort of lose a party member, the monk who just doesn’t seem to be coming, so we start without him (2 rogues, barb, bard and me, cleric). The first mobs turn out to be too tough already, maybe the CC failed or something? I’m saying over voice “this isn’t working, guys”. Why? Because party was taking way more damage than they were doing, I was having troubles keeping them healed, and if I’m using loads of mana already in the first fight, I won’t be able to get them through the quest. So, I just stopped healing and ran for cover πŸ™‚ Raised the ones who followed me in spirit form.

We regrouped, rebuffed and got a 3rd rogue to replace the monk πŸ™‚ Went in on hard. This was going a bit better πŸ™‚ The bard was doing a good job with cc and buffs, and kept me regenerating mana, so I didn’t even need the first shrine. Funny bit, though, we got to a trapped passage way, with blades and cold traps, 3 rogues, and no one could find the box. Heh. πŸ™‚ I waited, but since they seemed to just leave it, I timed it and ran. Got hit once by the cold, but made it through without a problem πŸ™‚ I also picked up a scroll apparently. I was busy adjusting something, so I didn’t even notice πŸ™‚ Need to check what scroll that was, lol. Anyway, things went well, we finished and I got 20k+

But now I’m wondering. How will these new levels affect shroud and other raids? E.g. will pugs limit raid member levels to 20? I wish to never TR Thaz, but I want do a minimum of 20 shroud runs for the cleansing stone. Does this mean that I’m gonna have to stay on lvl 20 for as long as I want to run Shroud, HoX, VoD, etc? I also have a bunch of quests I still want to run for favor (Reaver’s reach, devils battlefield, some IQ).

Thazara still needs more sp, but I can make her a sp gs item πŸ™‚ Well I plan to make sp and hp, and u can change epic destinies, can’t u?

Unbuffed Thazara’s hp is now 475 (previously 375). With ship buffs she’s at 495 hp and 1803 sp, and with party member buffs she’s up over 500 πŸ™‚ I’m very excited about this. Maybe I can even do an elite shroud now (still need more sp, though)?

So, yeah. That’s my first impression of the update.

Tc, and see you in game.

P.S. Even though I have plans to TR Cerge, I want to get him an epic destiny. πŸ™‚ But I need to run the Web of Chaos chain first (apparently it’s a prereq). Hmm, Cerge’s lvl 16, and I want to do elite, wonder how that would work? I’m not raid flagging him, since he is hopefully my future completionist, so I have at this moment not much need to gather end game equipment (since he has many classes to go through, still)
