CC’s over

πŸ™‚ woop woop, I can finally post again. Here’s my last post about Crystal Cove (at least until the next one’s on). I got a bit over excited about the whole event and decided to try to get as much out of it as possible. I ran a half marathon on Saturday (May 5th), got home and after eating sat down in front of the computer to do a CC marathon. πŸ™‚ And guess what? I went a bit overboard πŸ˜€ 24.5 h straight on, about 27 runs (maps were being collected incredibly slowly). I checked the amount of runs via DDOViewer and according to it, Thazara has run CC 44 times, Cerge 4 and Maidae 7. This was my first time running Crystal Cove and here’s the list of stuff I got for my toons:

Thazara

Maidae

Cerge

I was 301 shards short to upgrade Cerge’s trinket to greater, and I didn’t get enough shards to upgrade any more stuff to tier 3 (tier 3 is 1700 shards), but I’m quite pleased anyway. πŸ™‚ I love the trinkets, though.

And, why’d I get a scimitar for Thaz? Well, Thaz is an elf and through the Follower of the Undying Court Champion of the Deathless enhancement she is proficient in scimitars. She’s also offensive caster with melee fallback and the scimitar works nicely πŸ™‚ I was running around Smuggler’s Rest killing things with two blows.

Now, on a side note. I met a quite end game focused cleric while running CC, that was telling me that Thaz won’t be allowed to join higher level raids for being melee fallback. I was like, why? Thaz is first and foremost healer, and a pretty good one at that. So, she doesn’t have 500+hp or 2000+sp yet. So what? She’s not finished. I’m not planning on running high level raids or epics in a while yet. I’m still collecting favor and I’m just about to start running Shroud. I have no doubts that Thaz will be allowed to join any raid I wish to, when she’s ready.

Also, I really don’t like it when experienced players “tell me” what I should do. Like first you do that, then that. First you get these kinds of green steel, then you run that raid to get that and so on. I’m here to have fun. And I have my own way of playing. And I’m sure as hell not gonna do those things if you tell me I should πŸ˜€ I’m a bit of a rebel, yes.

Take care, and see you around Orien.
Much love, Thaz.

P.S. While I don’t like people telling me what to do, I very much appreciate it when people tell me where and how I can get cool stuff. But, if I go for it or not should be my decision.

  1. Sounds like you ran into one of the Übermeisters, as I like to call them. They think they know everything about every class in every quest. They don’t make suggestions, they give orders. The wizzy should be using this spell, not that one! The barb should be using Min II, not Lit II! But heaven forbid someone give THEM a suggestion – how DARE anyone imply that THEY’RE not perfect! (Yeah, this is possibly my biggest pet peeves about the game.)

I’ve been playing this game going on two years now. I play it a LOT. I have never ONCE been in a quest or raid that failed because someone had a gimp build or wasn’t “twinked” enough, gear-wise. On the VERY rare occasions where a wipe was mostly the fault of one person, EVERY time it was a matter of attitude/lack of team play on that person’s part.

Do what YOU are comfortable with and enjoy… even if that means playing a “useless” healbot cleric (as I do). πŸ˜›

  2. πŸ™‚ I wish I could “like” comments, like on facebook πŸ˜€

Ty for your comment. πŸ™‚ Well, Thaz isn’t a healbot, she’s just a healer that kicks butt when ever and how ever she can. Sometimes she’s meleing, sometimes tumbling around, throwing busts and sometimes she’s in the back with the arcanes. But, she isn’t gimped. And someone telling me I won’t be allowed to join certain raids, makes me more think that that person really doesn’t have a clue (yeah, and annoys me too). I know my toon, I know her strengths and weaknesses, and I usually don’t try to bite off more than I can chew.

As a matter of fact, Thaz has never been denied to join a party I wished to join, but I have turned down parties that I felt weren’t strong enough to do the quest they were going for. I even was allowed to join a party that didn’t want a healer, because I could melee. I love the fact that as a healer, you get requests constantly πŸ™‚ And on the lfg there’s always parties looking for healers, so I can just pick and choose.

(I’m almost considering rolling a second cleric/healer to help out lower level parties)

  3. But there really is only one way to play DDO – “your” way. (Had you going for a second, didn’t I? Hehehe.) Play it the way you want – build your toons the way you want. Want to take someone’s advice on a build? Go for it. Want to ignore their advice? Do so. Bottom line is it needs to be fun for you, or what’s the point?

  4. πŸ˜€ lol. “My way, or the highway”. Jup jup.

πŸ™‚ But, yeah. I’ve already seen several different kinds of clerics on my way to cap. Some are only focused on healing, others are melee, some are 100% caster. πŸ™‚ I like my build. I like what she can do. And atm, she’s pretty much badass. πŸ™‚

  5. One reason Jall is mostly a healbot is that playing a healer doesn’t come as naturally to me as other classes. I have to admit, though, some of the most fun I ever had on her was in a ToD with three other healers. Having all that backup let me go ahead and implode and DP and all that other cool stuff instead of saving mana for heals. And yes, I know clerics aren’t “supposed” to use mana for heals. They’re “supposed” to use bursts and scrolls – and Jall does that. But I feel much more comfortable casting her heals, even if it means chugging pots.

  6. πŸ™‚ I get it. I did do the healbot thing for a while, when Thaz was gimp (before I did the greater reincarnate and turned her into a caster). And learning to balance things did take me a while as well. Personally I prefer to be the only healer in a party that doesn’t self heal (it can be a lot of fun, though, if everyone’s self healing), since I hate wasting mana on someone that someone else was already healing πŸ™‚ (I also don’t do the second healer thing. I always play main healer, even when told not to, lol)

Undead quests are the best for clerics, though. πŸ™‚ When surrounded by undead, you can just jump in the center of action throw bursts + implosion and watch the undead disintegrate (I recently learned that implosion works on undead). I’ve been backing up monks doing just that (I love the monks, lol). Oh, and healing with scrolls’s incredibly slow. I only use them when I’m outta mana and bursts.

πŸ™‚ Having a cleric main toon does affect ones play style, though. Since a cleric’s main objective in any quest is to 1. stay alive and 2. keep others alive, I tend to do that on my other toons as well πŸ™‚ as well as constantly keep an eye on the hp bars.

  7. I was in a quest on my self-admittedly gimpy hagglebard crafterbot (Of her eight feats, three are dedicated to Marks of Making, one to Negotiator, and one to Skill Boost: Haggle… so pretty gimped right there).

I got in with a group doing Shroud flagging, and everyone in it – including the leader – was telling me how I should do this, how I should get that, yada yada, I don’t have enough HP, I should be warchanter or spellsinger, not virt, yada yada, I should get a Minos, I should get this, I should get that, yada yada.

My response was that she’s pretty much *designed* gimp, because her role is simple… hagglebard (I added crafterbot later). So she doesn’t have that much HP… she doesn’t really get into the thick of things unless there’s somebody else with the aggro. And she generally does a pretty good job of surviving.

And through 2-3 Vale quests, they made a few comments. And the leader and I chatted a bit afterward, and he really tried to talk me into making some changes, and I said I was happy as I am, I specfically didn’t want a Minos because I really like the Sora Kell set (Greater POtency VI *and* +2 to-hit/damage? Yes please! She’s gimp and needs all the help she can get when attacking!) And he’s going on about how nobody would want to raid with me, I wouldn’t get in many quests, yada yada… which was fine, I got her to 16 primarily soloing, didn’t really plan on raiding with her. And I stuck to my guns.

Next night, I’m on checking the AH, and the guy sends me a tell inviting me to do some questing. And the next night, and the next. And kept on wanting to quest with my gimpy hagglebard until OMG I HAVE A CAPPED CHARACTER HOW DID THAT HAPPEN??

So, moral of this long rambling story: Play how you want to play. Even teh ones who tell you you’re doing it wrong are likely to want to quest with you if you’re somehow still effective even if you’re specifically designed gimp.

(…and I could never play a cleric. Ever. If only because I get confused with all those damned spells. My wizard’s not likely to make it past L6 for a similar reason… and my FvS is melee-specced so screw the spells lol)

  8. πŸ™‚ lol.

But, yes. I don’t think it’s so much about how the toon is built, but a lot more about how good you are at playing you toon.

πŸ™‚ I am a proud healer. I am not healbot. I am a healer that kicks butt. And I feel everyone should be. Why? Because if you’re only healer, then you’re always dependent on someone else to get you through the quests. (and a cleric has so much potential that’s wasted if you only play healbot)

I prefer to be able to manage even if I have to solo (or run away to save my ass, so I can take down the foes before I raise the rest of the party). And, I find it very boring to only sit by, while others fight πŸ™‚ I will do the healer thing first of all, but when ever I can, I will help destroy things. And I love insta kills. πŸ™‚ When I throw a spell, I want the receiver to die (or at least be made immobile), not just take a bit of damage. Why? Because an only damage spell get’s me aggro. And aggro gets me dead. πŸ™‚ So, I want things to die before they reach me.
